고객을 중독시키는 기술 : Gamification

아침 출근 지하철, 오른쪽에 서있는 학생은 자동차를 추월하는 차차차 게임을
왼쪽의 아저씨는 동물을 이리저리 움직이며 Last Pang! 애니팡을 즐긴다.

스마트폰이 일상화 됨에 따라 우리는 더 쉽고 빠르게 게임을 즐길 수 있게 되었다.
2012년 하반기 스마트폰 애플리케이션 다운 유형은 게임app이 79%에 달하며 높은 비중을 보이고 있었다.

사람들이 이렇게 게임에 열광하는 이유는 무엇일까?
게임은 사람들에게 적절한 재미, 성취감을 동시에 제공하기 때문이다.
또한 큰 어려움이 없어도 새로운 기술을 배우고 손쉽게 아이템을 획득하게 되는 것
이러한 단순성과 성취감, 재미가 어우러져 사람들은 게임에 쉽게 몰입하게 된다.

사람들이 몰입하는 이런 게임의 장점들을 다른 분야에 적용할 수는 없을까?
이런 질문에서 출발한 것이 게이미피케이션(Gamification)이다.

“게임매커니즘을 기반하여 다양한 고객접점에서 고객과 상호작용하여 참여, 공감, 공유를 증대시키기 위한 마케팅 커뮤니케이션 활동”

일반적으로 Gamification은 게임이 아닌 분야의 프로세스에 적용되어
▶ 사용자가 자율적으로 문제를 해결하는데 도움을 주고, 문제해결 능력을 향상
▶ 게임에 참여하는 심리처럼 스스로 프로젝트에 참여
▶ 설문조사나, 복잡한 문서 등 읽기 지루한 일들을 즐기면서 할 수 있도록 유도
하는 것 등 의 효과를 발휘하게 된다.

Gamification은 새로운 것이 아니다.
마우스의 작동법을 익히게 하기 위해 만든 프리셀 게임
판매를 늘리기 위해 전달하는 포도송이 모양의 중국집 쿠폰 또한 게이미피케이션의 일환이다.

폭스바겐에서 진행한 Fun Theory 캠페인 또한 게이미피케이션의 사례로 들수 있으며
‘건강을 위해 계단을 이용하라’는 캠패인 없이도 이전보다 계단 이용자를 66% 증가시켰다

그렇다면 이런 Gamification을 적용하기 위해 필요한 것은 무엇일까?
▶ 보상
    긍정적인 만족감을 주는 것은 필수. 가상포인트/선물/성취감으로써 고객에게 만족감 전달
▶ 손실예방
   사람들은 이익을 얻는 것보다 손실을 더 아깝다고 여김. 고객이 동참하지 않을 경우 잃게 될 것들을 부각하는 방법
▶ 경쟁과 지위
   대부분의 사람들이 남들보다 높은 위치에 오르기를 원함. 랭킹/순위표를 활용
▶ 활동의 평가
   활동성과가 올라가는 것은 사용자들의 도전의식을 자극

하지만 이러한 Gamification은 비용이 많이 들고, 적용과정이 어려운 문제도 있다.
우선 게임화는 사용자들의 경험과 배움활동에 집중해야 한다. 게임화 디자인에도 전문지식이 필요하며, 그를 효율적으로 배치하기 위한
높은 기술도 필요하다. 해외에서는 (badgeville)와 같은 게임화대행 회사가 많이 존재하지만, 한국에서는 이런 회사가 많지 않아 적용에
시간과 노력이 상대적으로 많이 드는 편이니 Gamification를 비즈니스에 적용하는데 앞서 전문적인 분석과 설계가 중요할 것이다.
